My 3 biggest Skincare Mistakes

Let’s get a little personal today and talk about my skincare journey. I love my skin it’s not without flaws but we have come a long way! I am of Fitzpatrick scale 5 (a measure of one’s skin tone) and super oily. With this combination, the 2 common concerns people in this range face are breakouts and hyperpigmentation. Boy, I have had a fair share of breakouts! My teenage years endured this the most. Being a bad picker this left me scarred and lots of pigmentation. It was mostly hormonal breakouts, however, these were my mistakes:

  1. I wasn’t bothered for the longest time. I would say to myself they will go just as they came. Eventually, they did but you know what else I did? I will pick on them and that left me scarred so it will take long for them to go. When you pick without any treatment, the pores are opened, allowing bacteria to spread. You guessed right that means more breakouts. I had no routine and the most I did was to use epiderm(a topical cream for acne). Shoutout to those who used this cream. For me this was a hit or miss as sometimes it gets my skin clear, other times it will slightly change my complexion and sometimes just will not work.

  2. Until I went to beauty school, I had no clue on skin classification. This means I had no understanding of my skin. By this time, I had a routine but guess what some of the products I was using were not for my skin type and made my condition/concerns worse or just no results.

  3. I get lazy too lol, I’m human after all. I skip days, I do not do my evening routine.

My goal is always for a healthy skin. It didn’t happen overnight but I have made mistakes, I have learned and I am intentional about my skin because I will be wearing it as long as I live so I might as well!

What are some of the mistakes you have made or think you might be making? Remember if you are still trying to figure out this skincare journey I am here to help. Send me an email and we can set that up
