What then is Accutane?
Hello Tinselites (lol as per citizens of this community), now that we are getting familiar with the Accutane treatment gist, it is only right I tell you why I went on the treatment and the intricacies of Accutane.
I honestly don’t think I needed the treatment, like I said here I don’t mind trying treatments. I break out every now and then but it goes away with a chemical peel treatment or some sort of consistent routine. My cry is with pigmentation and of course, I need to deal with the root cause. So with the whole lockdown and not being able to go in to the spa to get my fave treatments I resolved to Accutane treatment. It felt quite convenient because
- I didn’t envisage getting pregnant this year
- With spas opening today and closing tomorrow it was safe as I would not get any cosmetic treatments or any treatment that will not be safe because of the medications.
I was really really getting frustrated with the chestne
- It was the peak of winter and so my skin sensitivity will be minimal
- I could afford it ( If you don’t have insurance it could be expensive)
- And really why not if it will do what it says it will do?
Accutane is the brand name among others and it is a medication used to treat severe acne. It is a retinoid meaning it is a derivative of Vitamin A. Isotretinoin (sold under the Accutane brand name) has been speculated to down-regulate the enzyme telomerase and hTERT inhibiting cellular immortalization and tumorigenesis In a 2007 study, Isotretinoin was proven to inhibit the action of the metalloprotease in sebum It is already known that metalloproteases play an important role in the pathogenesis of acne. Basically the sebum gland is responsible for oil production so what happens is Isotretinoin slows down oil production and the enzymes responsible for breakouts.
Isotretinoin is a prescription and is prescribed for you and you alone. You can’t share it. Before your doctor puts you on the medication a lab test is done though which they get an understanding of your liver. 3-4 weeks into the treatment another lab test is done to monitor your liver since the first test. Also your weight is considered for the dosage. If you are sexually active you have to be go birth control pills. Like many other medications there are side effects. In the next article I’ll talk about likely side effects and what effects I experience.
Remember let’s keep it simple, lets keep it healthy for you
